(Toledo News Now) -

It is an exciting time for one Toledo family as their son gears up to play Saturday in the NCAA Men's Final Four. Whitmer graduate Nigel Hayes is now a freshman player at Wisconsin. Hayes' parents are traveling to Dallas to watch their son's team take on the University of Kentucky.

Talaya and Albert Davis say their son loves the game but enjoys having fun off the court as well. He was a star for the Panthers just last year and is transitioning to make a name for himself in college ball.

"It's much different than high school, of course, but I mean it's exciting to see him out there and having the success that he has had so far, especially being a freshman," said Talaya Davis.

Hayes success includes receiving Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year award, and he is known for his humor. Davis says her son doesn't get too worked up. She says she is looking forward to celebrating the national championship on Monday. Hayes' father says he's also hoping Wisconsin ends up in that championship game, but is taking it all in stride.

"I'm also excited for this game, you know, taking it one game at a time. You know, you always go in feeling that your team is the best and you want them to move on so that's our mindset," said Albert Davis.

Vito Brown, a Bowling Green High School graduate also plays for Wisconsin.

Davis says his advice to Hayes is to play your game, follow your instructions, and let the game come to you.
