DEFIANCE COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Defiance County Environmental Services Employee is dead after an accident this morning.

The Defiance County Sheriff's Office says that a vehicle struck Peter Simonis, age 56, at the Gingrich Road Refuse Pick-up Center around 8 AM.

The vehicle was being driven by 87-year-old Max Hook.

Sheriffs say Mr. Hook was attempting to back up to a dumpster when his vehicle suddenly accelerated forward where it struck Mr. Simonis and pinned him between the vehicle and a parked trailer.

Mr. Simonis was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Fort Wayne, IN where he later died.

The accident is under investigation.
