ENTERPRISE, AL (WSFA) -

A $500,000 grant is being awarded to help an Enterprise company expand its aviation business and provide 200 new jobs. The company, Alabama Aircraft Support, specializes in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of military and commercial helicopters and small aircraft.

The Community Development Block Grant awarded to the city of Enterprise will provide infrastructure enabling the company to expand its business and construct a 64,800-square-foot aircraft maintenance building and hangar.

"It is a tribute to Alabama workers that our state is not only recognized for excellence in automobile manufacturing, but also has an equally good reputation in the aviation and aerospace industries," Governor Robert Bentley said after awarding the grant. "I am pleased to support this project and commend the dedicated community leaders, company officials and employees that have made this expansion possible."

CDBG funding will provide sewer services to the facility that will be built on a 9-acre site at Enterprise Municipal Airport. The city has pledged $219,940 in additional funds for the sewer project.

Gov. Bentley notified the city's mayor, Kenneth Boswell, of the grant's approval. The grant will be administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
