DALLAS CO., AL (WSFA) -

A former Dallas County pastor who was indicted in April 2014 on charges of sodomy, rape, sexual abuse and incest has pleaded guilty to rape and incest of a family member, confirms District Attorney Michael Jackson.

William Best, 48, was arrested on April 8, 2014 for allegedly raping an underage family member. He was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2.5 million bond.

On June 8, 2015 Best entered a guilty plea in the case. DA Jackson says the man will serve 20 years for rape and 10 years for incest.

At the time of his arrest, Best had been the pastor at Living Waters Worship Center in Valley Grande for three years, according to Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman Jr.  The chairman of the church's board of directors, Rick Barrett, said Best was promptly fired after his arrest. The vote was unanimous.

Huffman said the alleged sexual activity happened over a three year period at the church and Best's house. The victim told her mother about the most recent incident. That's when the mother contacted the sheriff's department. Huffman said investigators confiscated a computer and other physical evidence from Best's office at the church.

The sign outside Living Waters Worship Center the day after Best's arrest had a message that said: "Pray for our church - God will see us through."

At the time of Best's arrest, Barrett said he came highly recommended to the church from Fayette, AL. He said the church is devastated, shocked and angry. Barrett said this isn't what the church is about, and they are a congregation of loving, caring people.

Best's prior record only included minor traffic violations.
