Benton's Jordan Shaffer has already crushed the lofty expectations set for him as a senior. The dynamic pitcher and shortstop has guided his Tigers to a tie for the lead in the 1-4A district race.
"He is our leader," said J.D. Stephens, Benton's head basebacll coach. "He is a great teammate and he just relaxes everybody in big moments and doesn't let the game get bigger than it really is."
Jordan is a two sports athlete at Benton. He played quarterback for the football team but he admits that baseball is his first love ever since his dad introduced him to the sport as a young kid.
"Ever since I could hold a baseball he was there and I was hitting off a little tee."
Jorda pitched four scoreless innings of baseball against North Desoto on Tuesday, throwing five strikeouts and allowing only two hits. Last week against Loyola he batted 4-for-5 in a Tiger win. He will go to Northwestern State next year as a pitcher/hitter for the Demons.
