BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

An official with Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport says a plane made an emergency landing on Friday morning.

Airport spokesperson Toni Herrera-Bast says the landing happened around 6:30 a.m. The U.S. Airways flight was headed to Charlotte, North Carolina from Houston, Texas when a woman on board experienced a medical issue. The flight was diverted to Birmingham and the woman was transported to the hospital.

There has been no word on the woman's condition.
