CLEMSON, SC (WIS) -

After a Saturday where he threw two interceptions and was benched during the annual Orange and White Spring Game following an argument with the team's coaching staff, Clemson Tigers quarterback Chad Kelly has been dismissed from the team, according to the Athletics Department.

Head coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement late Monday afternoon that he had dismissed the QB due to "conduct detrimental to our program."

"He has had a pattern of behavior that is not consistent with the values of our program," said Swinney. "I hope he will mature and grow from this and become the man and player I know he can be. I wish him nothing but the best in the future academically and athletically."

Several sources originally reported Kelly was escorted from the football team's facility by Clemson University Police, but University Police Chief Johnson Link said his officers were not involved.

Kelly was in competition for the open quarterback position after Tajh Boyd declared for the 2014 NFL Draft.

It had been a rough year for Kelly, who had finally fully recovered from a torn ACL which he sustained during last year's spring game.
