WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) -

The Wetumpka Tea Party is celebrating its fifth anniversary, and on Monday it held its annual Tax Day Tea Party.

Members heard from Rafael Cruz, the father of Senator Ted Cruz, and also from Krista Branch who is a singer from Nashville. Leaders used today's celebration as a way to encourage residents to vote in the upcoming June primaries.

"We have so many people coming to our meeting, new people, and I think it's really important that every voter get out and vote during this primary, and then begin working for a candidate," said Becky Gerritson, President of the Wetumpka Tea Party.

The Wetumpka Tea Party was among the conservative groups whose applications for tax-exempt status was delayed by the IRS.
