Friends and family gathered Thursday to say goodbye to a Gordo Marine killed in a hit-and-run.
Mississippi State Troopers say 25-year-old Cason Park was struck and killed April 13 near Center Grove, Miss.
Park, who was an active Marine, was honored with a 21-gun salute following his memorial service at Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Gordo.
Those who attended shared stories of how Park lived his life for others.
"He was like a brother to me. I grew up with him since elementary school. He would give his own shirt off his back to a stranger. He was amazing," friend Alicia Britt said.
"One thing about Cason is he is a tough kid and anybody that knows him has a lot of memories of him," Zach Sullivan, a family friend, said.
Park was one of four children and those who knew him say he was very active in his community. Then, Park decided he would serve his country and join the Marines. We're told he spent a tour of duty fighting in the War on Terror. But all along his family says he stayed grounded and just enjoyed living life.
"He was the most honest and humble child," Pam Sullivan, a family friend said. "He was loved by every person in Gordo. And every person that ever knew him."
Mississippi State Troopers say they are still interviewing witnesses and it could take some time before a suspect is named.
