FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

A suspect in connection with an online UNA threat turned himself in Friday, as announced by UNA Police Chief Robert Pastula. Pastula said 21-year-old Brian Mitchell, of Madison, turned himself in and faces terrorist threat charges stemming from a post police said he made on the website "Yik Yak." The threat was made Tuesday morning around 11:30.

Pastula said Mitchell posted that he was going to "Shoot up UNA." The post was spotted by another student and was brought to Pastula's attention, who then placed the university on high alert as a precaution. Additional UNA officers as well as state police were brought in to increase the police presence on campus, and to keep a look out for suspicious activity.

Kilby Elementary School, located on campus, was placed on lock down for a brief period of time as well. The restriction was lifted later in the day.

Pastula said he worked with "Yik Yak" to help track Mitchell down. Mitchell admitted to police that he posted the threat and state that he would turn himself in. Mitchell was a junior at UNA living in Rice Hall. As of Friday afternoon, he is no longer enrolled at the university.

Mitchell will have to face a university judicial committee to determine the future of his status at UNA.
