HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Officers arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery at a Huntsville motel.

Police responded around 5 a.m. Sunday to the America's Best Value Inn located on the 2200 block of North Memorial Parkway.

The victim told investigators that he was approached by a man who asked to borrow a cigarette. According to the victim, the man motioned that he had a gun and forced the victim back inside where he took what was in the cash register. Police said the man offender then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect was spotted by officers a few minutes later crossing into the Kroger parking lot on Oakwood Avenue.

Authorities arrested 32-year-old Jakeel Adonis Shager.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
