MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Birmingham group is trying to acquire a liquor license for a multi-million dollar gentleman's club in the Madison County town of Triana, according to the city's mayor.

Triana Mayor Mary E. Caudle said the Birmingham group was present at a Triana Town Council meeting earlier in April.

According to Caudle, the group made a presentation at the meeting and intends to put a $3 million to $4 million upscale gentleman's club off Wall Triana Highway near the Savannah subdivision. The subdivision sits at the intersection of Wall Triana Highway and Harold Murphy Drive.

Caudle said the Birmingham group approached Triana about the gentleman's club earlier in April. She said the group already owns a gentleman's club in Birmingham called The Furnace.

According to a liquor license application, the group submitted the paperwork on April 3. There is no mention on when the adult entertainment establishment would be built.

Triana resident Deanna Fike is one of several people who live in the Savannah subdivision. She has concerns about the possibility of a club ending up across the street.

"We're going on a bike ride; the last thing I want is to have to explain to my kids - 'Oh, look at this new building; Mommy, Daddy, what is this building?'" she said.

Kenneth Howard also lives in the neighborhood. He worries about his property values and the safety of his children. Howard spent the weekend gathering signatures on a petition.

"What it states is the citizens of Triana are adamantly opposed to this type of establishment coming to our neighborhood," Howard said.

We have reached out to businessman Gregory Jackson to ask why he chose this location and whether he will move forward with plans to build the club if the town council votes down his license application.

The mayor said the town council will hold a public hearing to discuss the liquor license application at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.
