WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Governor Pat McCrory has selected Wilmington attorney Michael Lee as the new Chairman of the North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors. Lee will replace Daniel McComas, who stepped down April 2 after being appointed Chairman in August of 2012.

Lee joined the State Ports Authority Board of Directors in 2011, being appointed by NC Senate President Pro-Tempore Phil Berger. Governor McCrory appointed him as the Vice-Chairman in 2013. McCrory has named board member Robert Sar as the new Vice-Chairman.

Lee is the managing partner of the Lee Law Firm.  He served as Chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Adjustment and member of the City of Wilmington Board of Adjustment. Lee was appointed to the Board of Directors by the Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger in 2011, and appointed Vice-Chairman by McCrory in 2013.

"Michael Lee has a proven track record of leadership and will help provide the vision that will further integrate the ports into North Carolina's comprehensive transportation system," McCrory said in an email news release.

"This is an exciting time in our industry. I appreciate the governor's confidence and I look forward to working with the Board to ensure our ports continue to grow and prosper," Lee said in a statement in the same release.  "North Carolina's ports are the state's gateway to global commerce and I am excited to lead this board as we work to enhance the economy of the state of North Carolina."

Lee is also a candidate for the state Senate seat from District 9, representing New Hanover County.  According to McComas, Lee would have to resign his seat on the State Ports Authority Board of Directors should he win that election.
