MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery Area Transit Systems bus, or MATS, caught fire near Narrow Lane Road and the Boulevard Tuesday afternoon.

The fire lasted for approximately eight minutes before Montgomery firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze.

The Montgomery Police Department says only two people, the driver and a passenger, were on board when the fire started. Both were able to make it out of the vehicle safely.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but video shot from witness Brian Harris from across the street shows the flames starting from the engine compartment and moving quickly to engulf the bus.

The bus is considered a total loss.
