The attorneys for Amanda Berry and Gina DeJeus are speaking out after comedienne Joan Rivers made an inappropriate joke during a visit on the Today Show Tuesday.
Rivers was asked about her daughter's guest room where she'd been staying. In her answer, Joan compared it to Ariel Castro's Seymour Avenue home where Berry, DeJesus and Michelle Knight were found after being held hostage for more than 10 years.
"Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space," she said.
The comment has drawn the ire of the nation.
The attorneys of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus released the following statement on Wednesday.
"Our clients have become aware of Joan Rivers' unfortunate comparison of living in her daughter's guest room to their captivity. We understand that Ms. Rivers is a comedienne; however, the idea that a celebrity would say something this hurtful, on national television no less, is beyond shocking and disappointing. Our clients are strong, private women who have endured unwanted and often painful media attention for quite some time. They now have to endure this, which is a new low, and we believe a sincere apology is warranted."
