LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

New information has been uncovered regarding a murder investigation in Lauderdale County.

Deputies found Royce Varnell dead April 7, inside his Anderson home on County Road 511. They said the wheelchair-bound victim was on the floor and died from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators believe the murder is over drugs – but they said either way, they are working to figure out exactly who is responsible.

No signs of a struggle or the weapon were found. Since Varnell's murder, investigators have received dozens of calls with tips about what happened the night he was killed.

Investigators said they have about a dozen people they are questioning, and continue to ask for people to share any information they have that could solve the murder.

"This was a drug-type related offense, but this man was in a wheelchair and he didn't deserve what happened to him," said Travis Clemmons with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.

In addition to finding Varnell's killer, investigators are also working to crack the drug ring in the area.

"I call it the little meth game they're doing up there," said Clemmons. "We're starting to put a stop to that in hopes that someone will come forward and tell us things they know."

Anyone with information regarding Varnell's murder is asked to contact the sheriff's department immediately.
