Troy baseball drops midweek matchup to Samford Bulldogs

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) -

The Troy Trojan baseball team dropped a midweek matchup against Samford University in Birmingham on Tuesday.

Troy's starting pitcher Cody Hughes walked the first two Samford batters of the game, and then gave up a three-run home run to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Hughes lasted less than two innings in the game before the bullpen took over.

Troy pulled to within one run in the second inning as Trevin Hall drove in Matthew Howard and Nick Masonia on a two out double. That, however, would be as close as the Trojans would get all night.

Masonia was the only Troy batter with more than one hit on the night.

Troy will next play Jacksonville State on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
