HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
VFW Post 2702 in Huntsville will get a new patio, courtesy of the Home Depot.
For years, veterans at the VFW off Sparkman Drive haven't been able to use their patio because it's been in such disrepair.
"I've been a member since 1992 and we have not been able to use the patio since I've been here. The patio was put in initially 30 years ago and it just, over the years no one took care of it and it just went down," said Jack Dickinson, commander of the post.
Home Depot is donating all the supplies and employees are volunteering on their day off to help build the patio. On Wednesday, crews were busy laying down the cement and painting. On Thursday, they will put a finish on the patio and put up a privacy fence.
The company is also donating furniture, umbrellas, and fire pits to spruce things up.
Dickinson said the project will end up costing a couple thousand dollars, something the post would have never been able to afford on its own.
