AKRON, OH (WOIO) -
Akron Police officers are on high alert for a man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl. The child was on her way to school when the attack happened.
She says she cut through Prentiss Park just after 6:30 a.m. to get to Walter Innis Community Learning Center. That's when she says a man forced her into a baseball diamond dugout and sexually assaulted her.
"After he sexually assaulted her he told her to lay down and count to 100 and he would leave and she was free to go but he threatened her not to get up til she got to 100," said Lt. Rick Edwards of the Akron Police Department.
The 12-year-old was taken to the hospital and released. Her attacker is still on the loose. The man is described as 5'10", between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a navy blue hoodie sweatshirt and pants, a ski mask and a reflective vest, similar to what a safety guard would wear.
