BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Taxes and Railroad Park were the two main topics at Birmingham's Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday night.

First off, the council and mayor discussed the New Land Bank Committee. The group will oversee vacant properties within the city that are at least 5 years behind on their taxes. The land bank will have the power to take them and piece together several lots to turn over to developers or neighbors who want to redevelop the land. It will be the first of its kind in the state. The mayor and the city council still need to agree on how the board will work and who will run it. It's something they could not agree on during the meeting.

They also talked about different lease agreement options for Railroad Park. The city will have to look at the budget before they can make any decisions. A vote on the Railroad Park lease should happen next Tuesday.
