Mother speaks out against woman who stole from her child's grave

RICHLAND COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

After a local woman was recorded on surveillance stealing from a child's grave site, she was served with a summons for petty theft.

However, the victims, Jaclyn Sheridan and her family, think the crime is anything but petty.

"It has caused a lot of pain for me, my husband and our kids," says Sheridan.

The defendant is a woman named Frieda Shade who told police in Ontario, Ohio that she took the toy duck from the grave site to prevent a dog from destroying it.

"I never expected it to be a 50 something old lady, a mom and grand mom," says Sheridan.

Sheridan's son Hayden was 14 months old when he died in 2007. Ever since then, his parents would place toys and other items on his grave marker as a sign of their unending love, but over the years somebody kept stealing them.

Two years ago police set up surveillance and last Saturday, they recorded Shade walking away with the toy duck.

Police don't know if Shade is responsible for the other grave site thefts. She is due in court next month.
