Significant severe weather threat likely next week

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Several rounds of severe weather are likely beginning Monday. Forecast models continue to indicate incredibly high instability and increasing wind shear from an approaching system.

While we could see a few storms late Sunday into Monday, the worst of the weather is likely Monday night and again Tuesday afternoon and evening. This slow-moving system will not exit the state until Wednesday.

It is likely we could see a combination of damaging winds, tornadoes, hail, and even flooding. This severe weather threat will include much of the state with a somewhat higher risk west of I-65. Severe weather is likely Sunday in Arkansas with the threat progressing east on Monday.

Since our weekend weather is going to be calm, you should take the time to make sure you have a good severe weather plan in place and multiple ways to receive weather warnings. For those who live in mobile homes, you are encouraged to make plans to stay elsewhere Monday and Tuesday. You should also use this time to make sure all loose items in your lawn are put away.

It's still early to have the fine details on this weather event, but it's likely we could see some strong tornadoes develop next week.

Stay with FOX6 for updates throughout the weekend on this developing weather.
