HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The daughter of Madison County Commissioner Bob Harrison filed a federal lawsuit against the Huntsville City Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski.

Lynda Gaines claims school officials withdrew a promise to allow her to transfer to another position in retaliation for statements made by her father.

Harrison called the school board and superintendent liars and said they practice deception. His comments came amid the fight over Huntsville's re-zoning proposal. Huntsville City Schools must get approval from a federal judge before making changes to districts because of a long standing desegregation order.

Gaines claims she had an agreement with educators that allow her to "go wherever she wanted" the following school year if she would serve at Davis Hills during the 2012-13 school year.

Gaines claims Wardynski refused to allow her to transfer to another position after her father's comments. She has requested a trial by jury.

"These allegations are simply without merit, and the district looks forward to presenting the true facts to the court," said Wardynski in a statement. "The Complaint will now be reviewed by the school system's legal experts and, since it is a pending matter, we will not be able to offer any additional information at this time."
