LEE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -

The Auburn Police Department arrested an Opelika man on Saturday and charged him with first degree theft of property.

The arrest stems from an investigation of an automobile theft report that was filed on Saturday at a dealership in the 2000 block of South College Street. Officers were informed that a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, valued at $8,900, was stolen from the lot at some point during the day.

Police broadcasted the stolen vehicle information out to surrounding law enforcement agencies, and a short time later the vehicle was located by an Alabama State Trooper traveling on I-85 near Valley. The driver, who was identified as 28-year-old Samuel Graaf, was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail and will be eligible for a $5,000 bond.

The vehicle was recovered undamaged and returned to the dealership.
