CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Several communities in Cullman County suffered damage in this week's overnight storms.

Many homes in the Welti community had significant damage. Patrick Ray's home took a direct hit.

From the living room to the bedroom, there is nothing left but broken windows and destroyed furniture and the entire second floor of the home is gone. But suprisingly Patrick Ray and his family are in good spirits.

"It's brick and mortor, wood and nails. It can all be replaced. My family is safe that's all that matters," Ray said.

Ray has been through bad storms before. Three years ago his office in Cullman was hit. But Monday was different when his family was home and huddled together when the storm was headed straight for them.

"It kept getting louder and louder," he said.

And then it hit.

"I knew it was going to be bad because it was just terrible sound. You could hear windows breaking, stuff ripping and popping and cracking," Ray said.

But it's over now. Ray's daughter Ava found her invitations from her birthday party a few months ago. His son is already planning to add in a pool during the renovations and Patrick and his wife are just picking up the pieces with the help of the community

"At one point we probably had 120 people out here. Cullman High School brought their football and baseball teams. We had three or four different churches. Just a number of people in the community. I just want to tell everyone thank you so much for the help. It did make a difference," Ray said.

The NWS has yet to confirm if there was a tornado that hit the area.
