HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police said an infant that was seriously injured in a car crash Wednesday morning had reportedly been seated in the lap of her mother, who was driving the vehicle.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Memorial Parkway and Mountain Gap Road.

Investigators said a southbound pick-up truck made a left turn onto Mountain Gap from the parkway and turned in front of a northbound SUV, resulting in a head-on collision.

The two-week-old child was not in a restraint, and was taken to Huntsville Hospital with a life-threatening injury. The child's mother was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police said reports indicate the child was seated in the mother's lap at the time of the collision.

Neither driver involved was injured. Police continue to investigate.
