NWS says EF-3 tornado hit Cullman County

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WBRC) -

The National Weather Service says preliminary data shows that an EF-3 tornado hit several communities in Cullman County Monday night.

The tornado winds topped 145 miles per hour and the NWS says it was 350 yards at its largest and was on the ground for nearly 9 miles.

The twister first touched down in the Welti community along CR 636. It then moved northward, crossing the Broglen River and finally lifting after it reached the Berlin community.

A chicken farm, several homes and a TVA substation all suffered damage from the storm. Surveyors also noted many trees had been uprooted.

Bessemer (Jefferson County) - EF-2

Graysville (Jefferson County) - EF-2

Hazel Green (Madison County) - EF-1

Kimberly (Jefferson County) - EF-1

Limestone County - EF-3

Lincoln County - EF-3

Russellville (Franklin County) - EF-1
