ESCAMBIA CO., AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Department of Corrections is confirming that a death investigation is underway after a prisoner was found dead at Holman Correctional Facility in Escambia County.

DOC officials say inmate Lerico D. Lewis died on April 27.

Because of the death investigation, DOC officials would not release any other details surrounding the man's death.

Lewis was serving 25 years for robbery, burglary and theft of property convictions out of Jefferson County. Court documents show he pleaded guilty to the charges in 1999.
