NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

County Commissioner Brian Berger made an appearance at the board's agenda briefing Thursday, his first appearance with fellow board members in several months.

Berger appeared weeks ago at a candidates' forum put on by the Lower Cape Fear Republican Women, held at the Northeast Library on Military Cutoff Road.

When asked that night if he was planning to attend any County Commissioners' meetings before his term ends later this year, Berger said he has been out of state getting treatment for a medical condition, and he is working toward trying to attend meetings in the future.

Berger has not attended any Commissioners' meetings since he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in February of DWI and possession of a schedule 2 narcotic.

Fellow commissioners used a process called "amotion" to kick Berger from the Board in 2013, only to have a judge's ruling re-instate him in September.
