Seven suspects behind bars after sting operation

TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Seven suspects are behind bars in Tallapoosa County after an elaborate sting operation involving multiple law enforcement and government agencies, called Operation May Day.

Police say the operation included agencies such as the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force, Alexander City Police Department K-9 Unit, and the Alexander City Housing Authority.

They say the operation involved serving four search warrants and a total of 26 criminal charges across Tallapoosa County on Thursday, May 1.

They also say they seized a 2003 Ford Mustang, four firearms, several grams of marijuana and methamphetamine, and several hundred dollars in cash throughout the day.

Suspects in the case include:

- 33-year-old Jennifer Lee Stewart charged with four counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, certain persons forbidden to posses a Firearm, possession of controlled Substance and possession of drug paraphernalia

- 21-year-old Codey Wayne Stewart charged with certain persons forbidden to posses a firearm, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia

- 41-year-old Stacy Lynn Haddox charged with hindering prosecution second degree, possession of controlled substance, and possession of marijuana second degree

- 22-year-old Ryan Haddox charged with possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia

-24-year-old Elver Carey Mitchell charged with, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana first degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia

- 43-year-old Lonnie Shane Freeman charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime

- 41-year-old David Lamar Newsome charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, manufacture of controlled substance second degree, 3 counts of possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and certain persons forbidden to posses firearm

Police say the suspects were all taken to the Tallapapoosa County jail and the narcotics investigation is ongoing.
