Huntsville Utilities had to put out a high-voltage equipment fire after the wreck.
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville Utilities said a power outage around 1:15 a.m. Sunday was caused by a vehicle hitting a high-voltage utility pole.
Utilities reported the large power outage affected the areas around Sparkman Drive and Jordan Lane, including Oakwood University, and extended to the Monrovia areas in and around Indian Creek, Plummer Road, Nick Fitcheard, Johns Road and Research Park.
Authorities said two cars were involved in a wreck near the intersection of Oakwood Road and Jordan Lane in which one vehicle ended up in the Woody Anderson lot and hit a power pole, knocking out power to the traffic lights. Huntsville police responded to the scene. It is unknown if anyone was injured in the crash.
Utilities said service was restored to the areas around Sparkman Drive and Jordan Lane around 3:50 a.m. and that the vehicle had hit a high-voltage utility pole. Authorities said the subsequent outage in Monrovia was caused by the high-voltage equipment fire caused by the wreck, but that service had been restored there as well.
