CHEROKEE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said deputies apprehended a Kentucky fugitive in Gnatville on Monday.

Authorities said Robert Coltin Caldwell, 25, of Jenkins, Kentucky, was arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant. Deputies reported Caldwell was also wanted by Kentucky authorities on several other warrants, including felony assault to a law enforcement officer.

Pike County, Kentucky, deputies contacted Cherokee County deputies when they found out Caldwell was possibly hiding in the area. According to Pike County deputies, Caldwell had been on the run since assaulting one of their own during an arrest attempt.

Cherokee County, District Attorney and Marshal's Service authorities were trying to locate Caldwell when he ran into the woods off of County Road 18. Multiple agencies assisted in holding a perimeter around the area. Shortly after a state trooper helicopter and Department of Corrections tracking dog team arrived, Caldwell surrendered to deputies.

Caldwell was taken to Cherokee County Detention Center to await extradition to Kentucky.
