CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Cullman County Chief Deputy Max Bartlett confirms that a fire that killed three people in a camper on January 31 has been ruled an arson.

According to Chief Bartlett, Irwin Owens, 51, of Cullman, doused gasoline on his sister Sandra Mills, 58, and his brother-in-law William Mills, 54, both of Moulton. Then Owens set the camper on fire.

Chief Bartlett says Sandra Mills died in the camper but her husband was able to get out. When first responders arrived, William Mills told them what happened. Mills died later that night in the burn center at UAB. Owens died at UAB shortly after the fire.

Bartlett says Mills' motive is not known.
