BIRMINGHAM, AL (WSFA) -

Eli Gold, a NASCAR broadcaster as well as the play-by-play announcer for University of Alabama football games, is set to be inducted into the 2014 class of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

Gold, who is a native of Brooklyn, New York, started in the sports broadcasting field in 1972. In that time, he's done play-by-play for hockey teams including the Birmingham Bulls, St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators as well as a four year stint as the play-by-play announcer for the Birmingham Barons Baseball team.

In 1976 Gold joined NASCAR's Motor Racing Network broadcasting races.

In 1988 he became the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide's football team, a job for which he's been named Alabama Sportscaster of the Year four times.

Other inductees of the 2014 class include: Ruthie Bolton (Basketball), Red Cochran (posthumously) (Football), Bill Cody (Football), Travis Grant (Basketball), Walter Jones (Football), David Magadan (Baseball), and Major Ogilvie (Football) 

The induction ceremony takes place on May 17, 2014 in Birmingham.
