There's a way you can honor your mom with flowers this Mother's Day and support families in West Alabama with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit. Through the Celebrate Mom fundraiser, off-duty Northport firefighters will deliver Mother's Day arrangements. All delivery fees and tips on Friday, May 9, will go to The Finn & Quinley Infant and Children's Fund in the DCH Health System.
Finn and Quinley McInerney were born in 2004 and lived eight days. They spent those eight days in the NICU at DCH Northport. During their stay, the McInerney family was touched by the dedication of the NICU staff. The McInerneys also realized the need for support for NICU families, many of whom have extended hospital stays. Today, The Finn & Quinley Fund goes to help families and also to purchase new equipment for the NICU.
In addition to Finn and Quinley, their mother, Danielle McInerney, had two other children who started their lives in the NICU. She says in all the situations, the care of the NICU staff had a major impact on her family.
"I've had the positive outcome, so I've seen both sides, and the resilience of the people who work in a NICU, the good and the bad, the celebrating and the mourning. They mourn with you and they celebrate with you," said Danielle McInerney.
