PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The director of the Dayton VA Medical Center is coming to Arizona to remedy the crisis at the Phoenix VA.

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Friday that Glenn Costie will serve as acting director of the Phoenix VA Health Care System beginning on July 9.

He replaces interim Director Steve Young following Young's planned departure, the VA said in a statement Friday.

Director Sharon Helman remains on administrative leave amid investigations into extreme wait times and scheduling procedures that allegedly resulted in the deaths of at least 40 veterans.

Starting next month, Costie will oversee delivery of healthcare to some 85,000 veterans and an operating budget of about $500 million.

Costie has been the director of the Dayton VA since December 2011. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech.

Young was appointed director of the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System on June 21, 2009.

He also served as interim medical center director at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago from February 2011 to June 2011.

Prior to that, Young served as the deputy network director for the VA Sunshine Healthcare Network in Florida.

Young received a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Iowa and a master's degree in public services management from DePaul University.
