MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Loveless Magnet Academic Program has been named the recipient of the GE Global Growth Values Award.

LAMP will receive $2,500 as the recipient of the funds after being designated by former LAMP student, Martha Gardner. Gardner currently works at GE Global Research in Niskayuna, NY.

Gardner recently received GE's "Imagination and Courage Award" and was able to select a nonprofit organization of her choice to designate the award funds to. Gardner chose LAMP for its ability to motivate and challenge college-bound students and her personal and academic experiences there while in high school.

In a letter to LAMP Principal Mary George Jester, GE Communication Director Ricki Shapiro wrote:

"Martha spoke with world of you and what you have accomplished for LAMP, including coming out of retirement to lead the school again. I will be putting a hard copy of the photo in the mail to you and Martha, along with your award check, certificate and a copy of the program. Thank you for the passionate work that Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School has done to motivate and challenge college-bound students and for educating and inspiring such excellent graduates as Martha."
