Child hit by toppled tree

MOORESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A Mooresville family is counting their blessings, after a tree crashed through their roof, just inches away from their six year old boy.

It was around 3:30 Saturday afternoon, when a gust of wind sent a giant tree through the roof of the home on Kelly Avenue, and into Devante Graves' room as he sat on his bed playing video games.

"I was in my room and the lightening hit me on my shoulder," Devante said.

Thankfully, little Devante only has a few bruises. However, De'Empress Graves, Devante's aunt, doesn't think that would have been the case if the tree fell a few inches closer to him.

"I think we're a blessed family. Angels were looking after us," De'Empress said.

Mooresville Fire Rescue responded to the home. The tree also fell on a vehicle sitting outside the home.

Although the damage is extensive, the Graves' realize this story could have ended a lot differently.

"You can't take life for granted," De'Empress said.

The family does have home insurance.
