City of Troy holds ribbon cutting for expanded runway

TROY, AL (WSFA) -

Troy officials held a ribbon cutting Thursday for the opening of the airports new runway extension.

During Today in Alabama Troy Mayor Jason Reeves made the exclusive BIG announcement about the airport enhancements during our 'Hometown Spotlight' series.

The enhancements include an expanded runway and the addition of instrument landing technology, the first for a civilian airport.

"We think aviation is going to be a key in economic development in Alabama for years to come and this will put Troy in a very good position." Mayor Reeves says. This addition will extend the runway to almost 6200 feet, which will allow any kind of private airplane to land.

This will be the only civilian airport with this new technology in the country and will not only aide for economic development for the city but expand military training and benefit the football program.
