BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Birmingham City Council says they will be holding a press conference on Monday morning to discuss the recent shooting at the Foxx Trap Gentlemans Club.

The Foxx Trap was recently voted to be shut down by the council in relation to a high amount of shootings and reports of underage drinking. Club owners were granted a restraining order from a Jefferson County Judge so they could remain open during a court appeal. On Saturday morning, a security officer for the club was shot and killed by an off-duty Birmingham police officer after shooting at another security officer.

City councilors say allowing the club to stay open is unacceptable.

"Public safety is our number one priority, and we want citizens to understand that there are certain steps we have to take to ensure that their safety needs are met," Council President Johnathan Austin said. "As with the budget hearings, that are currently taking place, we want to educate our citizens on the numerous components of city government, and how they all work together to keep our city running smoothly."

The press conference will take place in front of the Foxx Trap at 10 a.m. You can watch it live on FoxAlabamaLive.com.
