CODY, WY -

Park County, Wyoming Sheriff's officials said Monday a search and rescue crew has located an aircraft that contained an 84-year-old Huntsville man, but his condition and that of another passenger are still unknown.

Robert Zimmerman of Huntsville and 86-year-old Ward Zimmerman of Seattle were on-board a 1963 Mooney M20C that was reported missing on Saturday.

The aircraft was located Monday morning on the eastern slope of Howell Mountain. Officials said the plane had settled in a steep ravine. It has heavy front-end damage and one wing missing.

Search and rescue personnel said the snowpack above the wreckage was too unstable, and the risk of avalanche was too high to attempt to reach the plane.

A Black Hawk helicopter has been requested from the Cheyenne Air National Guard base. When it reaches the scene, options will be discussed that include possibly lowering rescuers down to the wreckage to determine the condition of the occupants.
