HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Guntersville High School girls soccer coach charged with sexual abuse has filed a civil action petition against the Madison County Sheriff, just hours after posting bond.

David Jacobs Barrow, 57, was arrested Friday and charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of first-degree human trafficking. Huntsville Police said the charges were not related to his position as a soccer coach.

On Monday, Barrow was released on bond. The amount of that bond has not been confirmed.

Hours after posting that bond, a petition was filed by Barrow against the Madison County Sheriff. The petition claims Barrow was held more than 48 hours without a bond hearing and without a probable cause hearing. The legal document (PDF) also claims investigators arrested Barrow without a warrant.

Prosecutors said they are looking at mounds of evidence. They said it could take weeks to sift through it all, but would not specify what evidence they have.

Madison County Assistant District Attorney Tim Gann said authorities investigated Barrow and Kristian Danette Griffin over the course of several weeks before taking them into custody late last week. Gann said they currently know of at least two victims.

Gann was asked if they are investigating more people in relation to the case. In a statement, he said, "If evidence leads to somewhere else, that's where we'll go, but right now these are the only two arrests we've made."

Some of Barrow's neighbors continue to support him. Phil Mayor has lived next to Barrow for more than 20 years. He said his girls played soccer for Barrow and does not believe the allegations.

"My wife and I have talked about this situation and she feels the same way I do. She remembers them basically being the first people to come and welcome us to the neighborhood. Mrs. Barrow brought a chicken pot-pie that she's thought about ever since," said Mayor.

Police charged Griffin with conspiracy to commit sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age. Prosecutors confirmed Griffin worked for Barrow at a local Mike's Merchandise store. She was arrested Thursday night at the National Children's Advocacy Center.

NCAC Executive Director Chris Newlin said he's not allowed to talk about the specifics of either suspect's arrest, but he explained more about a human trafficking charge the coach faces. He said a state law passed a few years ago makes it easier to charge someone for both trafficking and sex abuse for the same crime. A suspect must exploit a child using a good or service, according to that law.

"If someone has a daughter and they say 'I will let you have sexual contact with my daughter in exchange for an ounce of methamphetamine,' that's human trafficking," said Newlin.

Griffin is currently in being held in the Madison County Metro Jail on a $120,000 bond.
