AUTAUGA CO., AL (WSFA) -

The Billingsley High School softball team will make its first-ever appearance in the state tournament this week with or without its own equipment.

Sometime between Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon, someone broke into the Bears' locked equipment shed and stole bats, helmets and catcher's mitts. The estimated value of the gear is more than $3,000.

The Bears are set to play Falkville at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Coach J.T. Lawrence told his girls just to focus on getting ready for the game, and they'll have gear one way or another.

The coach is reaching out to his coaching colleagues to see if the team can borrow some equipment.

The Billingsley Parent Teacher Organization voted Monday night to make a donation toward replacing the stolen equipment.

If you'd like to help the team, contact Coach Lawrence Tuesday at the high school at 205-755-1629.
