JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Teens having wild parties with drugs, alcohol, shotguns, ATVs and bonfires are creating havoc in an undeveloped part of South Pointe subdivision in Jackson County.

"We have people huffing paint, there's drug needles back there," resident Lisa Pomeroy said. "There's more beer bottles and beer cans than you can count. They are driving and they are driving drunk, and they are leaving bonfires behind and shooting guns while on recreational vehicles while under the influence."

The undeveloped area where the parties are being thrown is right around the corner from Pomeroy's house.

"My daughter and I are out for walks and she's on her scooter or bicycle and all of a sudden I hear gun shots," Pomeroy said. "I have to run home. Now my daughter wants me to check the doors every night and the windows because she is scared."

After seven years of trying to put a stop to it, Pomeroy is relieved her concerns are finally being addressed.

"We showed up a few times and gave warnings," Jackson County Sheriff Charles Britt said. "That didn't stop it, so we moved into another phase. We are starting to issue citations and we will start arresting and start towing. Whatever it takes to get this under control."

This weekend deputies showed up at one of the parties and issued 29 citations, including possession of drugs and trespassing. Several parents were also called to pick up their underage children from the party.

"Drinking, drugs, younger kids mixing with older kids, weapons being discharged, that's my biggest concern," Sheriff Britt said. "When is one of these kids going to get hurt or killed?"

"This is off limits now," Investigator Louis Miller said. "It's private property and we would like to ask them to respect the property owners here."

With the sheriff's department's help, Pomeroy and her family have been sleeping better at night.

"It's much quieter on the weekends now," Pomeroy said. "The word has gotten out that you will get fined and you will get arrested and you can't come play in my backyard anymore."
