COVINGTON, TN -

(WMC) - A quiet neighborhood had silence shattered by gunfire; one couple is scared and wants answers after bullets went through their home and a Jesus sign in their front yard.

"I don't like people shooting at my sign or house, either one. If I catch them they are going to need the Lord," said victim Ronnie Carlton.

Carlton and his wife were inside their Covington, Tenn. home when they thought they heard fireworks just before 9 p.m. Their neighbor called to see if they were alright.

"He said that wasn't fire crackers that was a gun," said Carlton.

He went outside and didn't see much except the Covington police who were a couple of blocks away. It wasn't until the next day that he realized how lucky he and his wife were.

"It would probably killed me," he said.

A bullet hole went through the wall in the living room. There is a bullet hole in the foundation of the house, one in his fence, and one that hit his neighbor's house.

Also, a bullet hit his Jesus sign.

"They shot my house twice, and I don't like it, and your Jesus sign, and my Jesus sign, too," said Carlton.

He has no idea who would shoot at his property. He says there are no problems with shootings in the neighborhood.

Carlton is prepared if they come back. He now wears a pistol in a holster, and he says he is getting a shot gun so he will be ready.

WMC Action News 5 went to the Covington Police Department to find out about the investigation, but no one was available to talk on Tuesday afternoon.
