ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A popular Albany restaurant chain is Albany's Small Business of the Year. The Chamber of Commerce gave the award to Stewbo's which owns Harvest Moon, The Catch, Henry Campbell's and Merry Acres.

This is the first year they've won the award.  Small businesses like Stewbo's Restaurant Group make up 90% of the membership for the Albany Chamber of Commerce and create thousands of jobs. Chamber leaders say small businesses need your support to be successful.

27-year-old Callie Hughey Walker is quite the accomplished business woman. In January, she and her sister became owners of Hughey and Neuman realtors. A business that's been in their family for sixty years.

"My dad always says taking out the trash to big sales, little sales, everything. Just doing anything you can  no matter what to make the company be successful and looking at all aspects," said Walker.

Their business serves home buyers and sellers and commercial properties throughout Southwest Georgia. Walker credits the longevity of their business to the hard work instilled in her by her family.

"The pressure is yours, you make it what it is and so if that means being here at 6:00 a.m. or 6 p.m., business never stops," said Walker.

Hughey and Neuman was one of the seven finalists for the Small Business of the Year Award handed out by the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce at tonight's celebration.

"It's more about what they do in the community. How they've grown as an organization, as a company," said Albany Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chris Hardy.

Hardy says small businesses are the backbone of the community, but they need the community's support to be successful.

"They don't have the multi-million dollar marketing and advertising budgets where major corporations and fortune five hundred companies do," said Hardy.

Walker advises future small business owners to be passionate about their work.

"Knowing what your passionate about and how to do that is probably the most important key," said Walker.

She hopes that passion will drive her business's success for another 60 years.

The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce also sold raffle tickets to benefit their non-profit organization of the year... The Junior League of Albany.
