Lee Co. leaders hear opposition to road project

Opponents of a proposed road project in Lee County told county commissioners what they think of it Tuesday night.

Commissioners held a public hearing on the Forrester Extension plan. They'll vote later on the route, but the recommended route would turn Glendale Road from a small residential street into a much busier road.

That upsets people who live there, including Jay McAfee. "I think it's become apparent because of the studies that Lee County itself has done that the evidence is against using Glendale and going through this conservation land and wetland to build this road," McAfee said.

Engineers studied several options and recommended the Glendale plan. Commissioners will continue to study the issue before taking a vote. Chairman Rick Muggridge said, "There is much demand for the east-west connector. It's still, just trying to do the best we can as the people's representatives coming up with the right route."

The Forrester Parkway Extension would provide a major new east/west corridor across Lee County. The 10 mile road would connect Philema Road to Highway 82.
