RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rankin County parents with autistic students who attend Oakdale Elementary School are speaking out against proposed changes to the school district's autism program.

The school districts says they are proposing to move the children from Oakdale Elementary to a school in their home district.

Asst. Superintendent Richard Morrison says the proposal is meant to restructure and enhance the autism program.

Parents in opposition say they were not considered in the decision and will fight for their children to remain at Oakdale.

Dr. Tracy Connelly, the mom of an autistic child spoke before the board and believes the district is in violation of the law.

We'll have more on this story later today.
