AL State Democrats hold conference on upcoming elections

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

From U.S. Senators and House Members to Alabama Representatives and state senators like Quinton Ross, who represents Montgomery in the 26th district, Democrats are ready to take back control.

"First of all, I believe that the Democratic Party is alive and well," Ross said.

Republicans took control of the house and senate in 2010, and Democrats don't want a repeat this election year.

Representative Joe Hubbard is the Democratic nominee for Attorney General.

"In 2010, it was my first run for a political office. I was the only democrat in the state of Alabama to unseat a Republican incumbent," Hubbard said. "We plan to do again in 2014 with another incumbent attorney, this time the attorney general."

Democrats say people are paying attention to what has happened the last four years in the Alabama state house.

"No strategy is necessary. The facts speak for themselves," Hubbard said. "After four years of giving the Republicans all of the levels of government in the state of Alabama, the Alabama voters are seeing that under their watch corruption is flourishing."

"So while we would love to regain the majority, I think that as people ask themselves the question, 'are they better off now than they were four years ago, they would be able to tell them at the polls that they are not," Ross said.

The new voter ID law was a main focus of tonight's conference.

Democrats say they are focused on making sure people understand what types of identification will be accepted, and making sure voters have the information they need to successfully cast their vote on June 3rd.
