Valdosta State stuffed a Alabama-Huntsville rally Friday to move one game closer to returning to the Division II National Tournament.

VSU held off UAH 9-8 in Huntsville in the first game of their Super Regional series.

Valdosta State opened up an 8-4 lead after five and a half innings, only to have the Lady Chargers cut the lead to two in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Heather Robinson blasted her second home run of the night over the center field wall to push the lead back to three.

UAH answered again, scoring twice and putting the game-tying run on with two outs.

Caitlyn Calhoun slammed the door shut though, forcing Brianna Sullivan to ground out to third to clinch it.

VSU can advance to the D-II National Tournament with a win Saturday. Game 2 of the series begins at 2:00 in Huntsville.
